-Hey Tess! It's good to see you. -I smiled and hugged her. She hugged back, and grabbed my hand.
-Come on! I don't think you met Shane already.
-Your boyfriend? No, I haven't met him yet. Where is he? -Tessa just smiled and led me to a blonde guy.
-You must be Avery. My name is Shane Dyson, but just call me Shane. -he smiled, shaking my hand.
-Nice to meet you Shane. -then I turned back to my friend.- Tess, where is Cade?
-In the Lab. -she pointed to the small building next to the house.- But knock on the door before you enter, he has been really grumpy today.
-Got it. See you later! -I waved to them as I walked to my partner-in-experiments. I wondered, why did they rebuild their house AND the Laboratory? I never really liked secrets, but I knew that if they trust me (and I hoped they do), they will tell me.
-Cade, are you in there? -I knocked the door, just to hear something like metal shifting or what. It was similar to the sound those giant robots made in the TV... maybe in Hong Kong, if my memory is good. I shook my head. It was impossible, I had to stop imagining things.
-Avery! -he opened the door and hugged me.- Jesus Ave, you are just getting taller all the time we meet! When was the last time exactly?
-One or two months, maybe? -I shrugged, and smiled.- It's good to be back. What were you working on?
-This little one here. -he showed me a car that was parking behind him. Suddenly, the radio turned on, someone saying "Hey, I'm not little!" and turning off. Cade just sighed.- His radio went haywire, but I have no idea what to do with it. Maybe you can fix it? -he looked up at me, and I shrugged.
-I can give a try. -I walked to the car, my hand sliding on its hood.- A 2014 Chevrolet Camaro... how did you get this beauty? -I glanced up at the Yeager, who stood there, but didn't react.- Earth to Cade, are you there? Cade! -I shouted, and he shook.
-Sorry Avery, I was just a little shocked. I didn't know you like cars. -he looked at me with surprise.
-I grew up with two brothers, I had to like something that they like too, or I wouldn't even be able to start a conversation with them. But really Yeager, where did you get this one? It looks beautiful, I can't imagine what damaged its radio. -I said as I opened the driver's door, climbing in the vehicle.
-Let's just say, I had to go through things I would leave out happily. -he murmured, as I checked the car.
-I don't know what's up with it. It looks brand new.
-You look beautiful-too. -the radio changed between stations, and I furrowed my eyebrows.
-Okay, this is the strangest car I have ever seen. If it would be a living person, I'd say it's flirting with me. -I snorted and got out from the Camaro.
-Flirting, huh? -the man looked angrily at the car. Wait. At the car? Okay, something is really off here. Or I'm imagining things, again. Cade's worried voice got me out from daydreaming.- Avery, are you okay?
-Yeah, I am. It's just... ah, forget it. -I shook my head, but something just couldn't get out of my brain.- Cade, why did you rebuild the house and the Lab? They both look cooler, but I thought you guys were out of money.
-That's, a... long story Ave. -he rubbed the back of his head.- I'm not sure if I can tell you it.
-The great Cade Yeager has to ask for permission? -I smirked, crossing my arms. The man burst out in laughter, and I sat on the Camaro's hood.
-You didn't change a bit Ave. -he smiled, sitting next to me. The car moved backwards, so Cade fell down, swearing quietly. I laughed and helped him car.
-I'm starting to believe that something gotten into this car. I don't know what, but I like it. -I patted the car's hood, and I heard its engine rumble. Strange car.
-And I'm starting to not like it. -Yeager murmured, but I hopped down from the car and helped him up. The radio played "Oh come on babe,-come back!", making me giggle. I didn't know what was up with it, but I knew that if it would be something dangerous, Cade wouldn't let it be here.
-Is this car some sort of new technology? I mean, Chinese or what? -I looked back at the Camaro.
-Chinese technology? More like Japanese... -he rubbed the back of his head. We heard a knock on the door, and the voice of her daughter reached my ears.
-Dad? Crosshairs wants to talk to you about... -she walked in, but she met my questioning look.
-Crosshairs? Who is that?
-Just a friend of mine. -Cade dabbed and walked out of the Lab.- Feel free to look around Avery!
-Okay... Where are you going Tess? -I turned to my friend who was walking to the door, but looked back.
-To Shane, why?
-Just asking. -I shrugged, and walked back to the Camaro. I heard the door closing as I sat on the car's hood. I looked around, but saw nothing new.
-Just the same old inventions... what was Cade doing that time I was in England? -I murmured to myself, and layed down on the car, my head on the window. The Camaro's engine let out a strange sound, and it started moving. I felt myself sitting in the hand of the strange car. Well, it was a strange car, but then it was a giant robot-like creature, it's blue optics examining me.
-Well, didn't see that coming... -I muttered to myself, quite shocked by what happened.- Cade definitely owe's me an explanation...
